Corning is a glass manufacturing company that makes
glasses for smartphone manufacturers. They are great at scratch resistance and
also in some instances, they have been great in surviving drops as well. Corning
entered the glass market in the year 2013 with their Gorilla Glass 3 which was
great at the time as they were scratch resistant. But after that, they launched
Gorilla Glass 4, Gorilla Glass 5 which didn’t do great and they were just a marketing
gimmick just to survive in the market. They were about to launch their Gorilla
Glass 6 variant but this time around, they have announced their Corning Gorilla
Glass Victus, which is a great jump in the market.
They have worked on their product for so long,
researched well, and brought new generation products in the industry. They have
collected problems of 90,000 users with the glass in a smartphone and resolved
it with their engineers. They found that the main problem of a user is a scratch
problem and dropping the product often when they pick up.
They have improved their previous versions of glass by
extreme testing and now the latest Gorilla Glass Victus can survive drop tests up to 2 metres and survive scratches of regular day to day scratches. They have
told that this glass will come at a premium price which means it will be coming
to all the flagship products first and within a year or two we can see it in a
mid-range smartphone. Let’s see how the glass will perform on a rough day to
day usage one it is out in the market.
