More than 400 Companies removed their Ad-Campaigns from Facebook

                 

                             

                     After the death of George Floyd on May 25 by the White Policemen in Minneapolis the “Black Lives Matter” protest became aggressive across the globe. During the protests Facebook announced that it would ban “a violent category of hateful content” which would eventually void the Platform rules.

                   Facebook has a series of complaint reports over the data breach of the customers for better ad-positioning and for the welfare of the Advertisers. Facebook also affects the Election Campaigns across the globe over 60 countries.

                 Ad-Campaigns are important for a social media platform, but safety of the consumers data is more important than an advertisement. This series of incidents resulted in #StopHateForProfit campaign started on June 17 by the civil rights groups, the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and the anti-Defamation League. These organizations started to pressurize giant companies to halt their ad-campaigns on Facebook and Instagram (which is also owned by Facebook since 2012).

                 CNN confirmed that Microsoft quietly suspended their ad campaigns from Facebook and Instagram weeks before #StopHateForProfit campaign started. Microsoft spends more than $115 million on Facebook ads in 2019 as per the reports by Pathmatics Analytics Company.

                  Following this, many giants began to pause their ad-campaigns which includes Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Honda, Volkswagen, Best Buy, Unilever, Ford, Adidas, Hershey’s, Levi’s, Verizon, HP, and 400 other companies.                                  After the #StopHateForProfit campaign started on June 17, within 13 days, the valuation of Facebook has decreased by $60 Billion Dollars. Also, in the recent iOS 14 update, the critical permissions which are shown in in the interface which says, “Facebook would like to find and connect to devices on your local network?” which has been a default setting earlier. If Facebook continues to have consumers data which their acknowledgement, they will have to meet more crisis than ever.
