The Spectacles 3 by Snapchat which was launched last
year on August 2019, which created a hype across the internet is finally now
available in India via Flipkart platform. Basically, these are sunglasses with
cameras provided to capture pictures and videos to post on Snapchat. Spectacles
3 come with 2 cameras on each side of the frame which is used to create a 3D
image or a 3D video with the help of Depth Sensor present in the camera.
The pictures can be imported via Snapchat app only as
it is designed so. The depth field of view allows consumers to play with the AR
filters available in Snapchat. It also has a microphone to record audio.
Augmented Reality (AR) is still not come into the
usage of common public, that is the reason why smart glasses has not made it
into the market yet. Google made its own smart glasses in 2013 which failed in
the market as it was too early for people to understand the product.
Snapchat claims that they are ahead of time and people
are really into AR as a future technology upgrade. That is the reason why
snapchat is working on AR based glasses. Their spectacles 2 didn’t make a big
hit in the market but the Spectacles 3 since the launch has been welcomed by
many in the market. For Snapchat, India was not a mainstream market till 2018,
but after their growth of 120% by active monthly users in 2019, they have
decided to launch their products in India. It is still a doubt that how will
the snapchat consumers in India respond to this product as the price of the
Spectacles 3 is Rs.29,999/- as displayed in Flipkart.

These spectacles act as an action camera just like any
GoPro. You can take a picture or record video just by one click in the frame of
the sunglasses. No voice assistant is required to turn on the camera. It has a
pair of cameras, where one is used to take pictures and videos where the other
is used to measure the depth of field to make it feel real which can be later
edited in their app.
The photos can be captured at a resolution of 1728
x 1728 and videos can be captured at a resolution of 1216 x1216 at 60 FPS. You
can record a 10 second clip every time you press the button, a long press to
take pictures and a very long press to take a 60 second video clip. Spectacles
3 is included with 4 GB of storage which can store upto 100 3-D videos or 1200
3-D pictures. It is included with 4 microphones which supports Bluetooth 5.0,
Wi-fi, and GPS.
Spectacles 3 come with a triangular case which
supports type-C charging. The case can recharge the Smart glasses 4 consecutive
times. In a single charge, we can take approximately upto 190 pictures and 60
10-second videos.
What about Privacy in India?
India is a secular country. You can’t just walk around
anywhere with a smart device like this and take pictures of anything without
the permission of the concerned, it would become a great disaster. That is the
reason, Spectacles 3 comes with 2 ring lights around the camera which turns on
whenever you turn on camera either for taking a picture or for shooting a
video.

According to us, it would still take generations for
an Augmented Reality (AR) 3D shooting device like this to be practically used
by people across the globe like Smartphones.
