Neuralink revealed a pig in testing with their new brain implant chip

Elon Musk’s  Neuralink company related to future human robotic technologies showcased a pig which was inserted with the company’s device, at an event live streamed on YouTube. One pig had device recording signals from an area of the brain linked to its nose. The Pig had the chip for two months in its brain during the time of livestream.

As the pig’s nose touched things, a computer representation indicated when more neurons were more. Pigs have large parts of their brains that are devoted to the nose part which is a sensitive sensing instrument.

The design of the Neuralink device has changed since it was shown last year, rendering the device itself hard to see on the test pig. It is now coin-shaped and meant to sit with the skull, rather than having a small device resting near the ear. The device can pair with a smartphone app over Bluetooth.

The first clinical trial will be in a small number of patients with severe spinal cord injuries, to make sure it works and is safe. It is said that disabled patients will be able to restore full motion in people with those types of injuries using a second implant on the spine.

Right now, the device is restricted to the surface of the brain — it doesn’t tunnel into deeper regions. Many important functions, such as movement, vision, and hearing, happen on the brain’s surface.

If this is going to be the future of AI, we are heading towards a great future for disabled people.

We hope that we have provided useful information to you.
