Google has removed 25 apps from Play Store for phishing Facebook credentials

Apps removed from Play Store:

Almost 2.5 billion people in the world use Android as their mainstream smartphone, with Play Store as its heart for android applications contain more than 2.96 million applications for people to use. For Google. It has been tough for reviewing all the apps before they come to the play store. Many malicious app developers use this as an advantage and try to bypass the rigorous review process as much as possible. Google is also taking active steps in removing malicious apps from the platform now and then. Keeping this in mind, Google removed 25 malicious applications from the play store this week for using Facebook credentials as a hole in the tunnel and acquiring user’s data.

A French Cyber-Security Firm Evina reported Google a few weeks back about the 25 malicious apps that were taking a toll on users’ data and that a single threat group reportedly created a batch of apps everything that was wallpaper apps, video editors, flashlight apps and also small games. Also, it is said that many applications are on the web for more then a year now.

“When an application is launched on your phone, the malware queries the application name,” explains the cyber-security firm. “If it is a Facebook application, the malware will launch a browser that loads Facebook at the same time. The browser is displayed in the foreground which makes you think that the application launched it. When you enter your credentials into this browser, the malware executes javascript to retrieve them. The malware then sends your account information to a server.” As reported by bgr.com.

As of now, Google has disabled all the 25 malicious apps from Play Store and it has notified all the people who had the apps already through Play Protect Feature.
